# Tools

> Every tool the Splot MCP server offers a connected assistant, what it does, and what it may change.

A connected assistant works with your journal through these tools. Each comes with instructions for using it well: search for a food before making a new one, ask one short question when a food or portion is unclear, and say something is saved only once it is. Every tool's page shows its inputs and those instructions, word for word.

Tools that read never change your journal. Assistants usually ask before using tools that write or delete.
