# Read meals

> Reads your meals, newest first, by day, date range or state.

`READ list_meals`

Your assistant uses it to look back at your days, to check what you planned, and to make sure a meal was saved before saying so.

It takes the same input as [List meals](https://splot.health/docs/api/meals/list) in the API.

## Inputs

| Input | Type | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `state` | string | One of `planned` or `logged`. |
| `day` | date | |
| `fromDay` | date | |
| `toDay` | date | |
| `from` | date-time | |
| `to` | date-time | |
| `limit` | integer | From 1 to 100. Defaults to 20. |
| `offset` | integer | Skip this many results. Pass the nextOffset of the previous page to read on; a null nextOffset means there are no more. Defaults to 0. |

## What your assistant is told

The tool's own instructions, word for word, as every assistant receives them.

> Read the person's saved meals, newest first. Filter by day, by fromDay and toDay (inclusive local dates) for a range such as a week, or by from and to timestamps, and optionally by state to see plans or eaten meals. Only meals in a result exist; never claim others do.
